Saint Augustine’s University Students Meet Poet Nikki Giovanni

The members who participated were Donveyea Watson, Briana Arrington, Janae Franklin, Elijah Cain and Sayvon Stubbs. They were accompanied by their advisor Chris Massenburg, assistant professor of English.
The trip was a part of the ArtBus: A Moving Model for the Arts in Higher Education created and coordinated by Kimberly McCrae, program coordinator at the Duke Women’s Center. McCrae is the advisor to Spoken Verb, Duke’s poetry club. The vision was to begin a creative cultural exchange between students on various campuses. The SAU students met and traveled with students from Duke University to Virginia. While there, they met with members of VT Expressions, Virginia Tech University’s poetry club. Members of Spoken Verb and the Falcon Poetry Club were able to share their original work as part of Virginia Tech’s inaugural poetry slam.
